Debbie Mukarsel-Powell Removes Photos From Polling Stations After Rick Scott Claims Illegal Photography

Candidate for the Senate from the Democratic Party Debbie Mukarsel-Powell deleted a video she posted online from an early voting location. The move comes after incumbent Republican U.S. Sen. Rick Scott claimed that the video was infringing state law.

“Debbie Mukarsel-Powell should be prosecuted for flagrantly violating Florida election law in a desperate attempt to draw attention to her failed campaign,” said Jonathan Turcottespokesman for Scott’s Senate campaign.

“We also expect Miami’s Chief Election Officer to censure her immediately, not only for breaking the law, but for violating the privacy rights of many voters. No one is above the law, including Debbie Mukarsel-Powell.”

The Mukarsel-Powell camp has denied wrongdoing.

“The only person in this race who broke the law is Rick Scott, who oversaw the largest Medicare fraud in the history of this country,” said Lauren Chowspokesman for the Mukarsel-Powell campaign.

However, shortly after Scott’s campaign claimed the apparent breach, the campaign took down the video.

Florida’s polling place security law prohibits taking pictures and videos inside the polling place.

“Photography is prohibited in a polling room or early voting area, except that a voter may take a photograph of his or her own ballot,” states Florida Statute 102.031.

The Scott campaign shared screenshots of the video, which is no longer available on its social media feed. Mukarsel-Powell, a Democrat from Miami, spoke to the camera on video. On X, she also captioned the video with the message: “I’m about to cast my ballot and I’m so honored and emotional thinking about every Florida resident who voted to get us to this point. Let’s bring it home, Florida.”

Another photo posted on her X account was also taken at a library where early voting was taking place, with the caption: “That feeling when you vote for yourself to be Florida’s first Hispanic senator!!”

The Scott campaign made it clear that the removal of the posts was a hint that the Mukarsel-Powell campaign knew they were wrong to publish them.

“Hey @DebbieforFL why did you delete your video?” later, read the post on Scott’s X campaign account. “Good thing @X saved it for you here.”
