My final week of my 2024 Halloween Horror Movie Countdown was filled with supernatural horror movies on the best streaming services. I had a satisfactory experience science fiction horror movies While I wouldn’t necessarily call myself a fan, when it came to supernatural horror movies, I felt right at home with psychological horrors and slasher movies.

This week’s roundup features a variety of supernatural horrors featuring ghosts, vampires, and high schoolers with telekinetic powers, wrapping up the final week of my countdown to Halloween 2024. Focusing on this little project throughout October was incredibly exciting. , and it not only expanded my knowledge about best horror movies but opened my eyes to its various subgenres. This is just the start of many exciting streaming projects to come, and you can bet I have a Christmas movie in the works.

Director: Oren Peli
Duration: 86 minutes
Where to broadcast: Max (USA), Prime Video (UK) Paramount Plus (Australia)

As I approached my teenage years and began to panic to prove that I was bad, I remember Paranormal phenomenon one of the first horror movies I watched.

I like it creep (2014), found footage and I’m in a very complicated relationship. I can’t watch one without being on edge the entire time, but somehow that’s what appeals to me, and as for Paranormal, it’s not as disturbing as I remember it being as an 11-year-old.

While the movie isn’t as exciting as I’d hoped it would be for a home horror movie, it gets points for the way it flows. Unlike a few horror movies I’ve seen recently, the action and climax are sustained until the end of the film. The night footage segments give you doses that build gradually throughout the film, preparing you for more.

Director: Fran Rubel Cousoui
Duration: 86 minutes
Where to broadcast: Fubo, Paramount Plus (USA), Disney Plus (UK and Australia)

When I looked I saw the TV light up (2024) at the movies, it got me watch my favorite TV of all time on Hulu Buffy the Vampire Slayer. For some reason, I’ve never seen the original movie, even though the TV adaptation is a favorite of mine, so naturally it was at the top of my Supernatural Horror of the Week list.

Going into it, I knew it wasn’t going to be an incredibly polished film, but that’s the beauty of it. Compared to the TV show, the vampires in the movie are a little underdone and lack the scare factor. Not that the vampires in the TV show are particularly “scary”, but their prosthetics and characterizations give them much more depth as supernatural antagonists. But David Arquette was indeed a very pleasant surprise.

Yes, it’s not the best movie, but it’s a great example of an “if you get it, you get it, if you don’t, you don’t” movie.

Director: Tyler Gillette and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin
Duration: 95 minutes
Where to broadcast: Netflix (US), Prime Video (UK and Australia)

When I think of this movie, the only thing that comes to mind is how it became a gay icon in the mid-2010s and had a very short-lived popularity on the internet. This was my comeback The Babadook as I couldn’t finish it when it first came out and it’s a very enjoyable watch.

Beyond the screaming baby and some very questionable parenting decisions, this film is a deeper commentary on the lives of single parents as well as the horrors of childhood. As this film was embraced by the queer community upon its release, it was reinterpreted as the Babadook character itself representing a repressed queer identity. While watching the film, both themes had a fairly balanced presence and were presented in a rather dark manner, which I thought was not only appealing but also added purpose to the film.

Day 25: Kerry

Carrie

Director: Tyler Gillette and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin
Duration: 95 minutes
Where to broadcast: AMC+ (US), Prime Video (UK), Stan (Australia)

Carrie it’s not just a supernatural horror film, it’s a coming-of-age tale of violence and religious torment. One of the best written horror heroines, you can’t help but root for her and the doom she leads everyone to – Sissy Spacek was a perfect choice for Carrie White, as was Piper Laurie as her controlling mother.

Even though it was my second time watching since I was a teenager, watching it again in my twenties was like watching it for the first time. Of all the movies I’ve tagged this week, I’d go as far as saying this one Carrie the only one I will visit again in the future.
