One Direction star Liam Payne, 31, resigned as director of four music companies before he fell to his death from a balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Recently released Companies House documents reveal Payne’s intentions to leave the firms, which generate income from records and concerts.

A few hours before his death, Payne was seen reading e-mail in the lobby of the CasaSur Palermo hotel. Concerned staff escorted him to his room and called 911, reporting his erratic behavior and damage to his laptop.

Journalist Paula Varela released CCTV footage of Payne fainting, which led to the tragic fall: “There is footage of Liam fainting and falling from the balcony. If he had been by his bed, he would have fallen safely.’

Authorities are investigating Payne’s death, initially suspecting substance-induced psychosis. Prosecutors said he was likely “semi- or fully unconscious” at the time of the incident.

Payne had been holidaying with friend Kate Cassidy before her return to the US a few days earlier. Earlier that month, the couple attended a Niall Horan concert.
