Eufy’s new $70 security camera captures color video at night

Eufy’s new security camera captures color video at night

Eufy announced a new security camera Room camera E30. The camera is updating older model released in 2020 with 4K video recording capabilities and an optional spotlight that adds color capture to the typical night vision options. It is currently available for $69.99.

The Indoor Cam E30 can rotate 360 degrees horizontally and pan 75 degrees vertically, allowing you to monitor the entire room. It uses built-in artificial intelligence to detect the presence of people and pets, and can recognize sound signals such as a baby crying and notify you about them. The camera can automatically track moving objects to keep them in the frame. Its position can also be controlled manually, but this is only available through the Eufy mobile app, not Apple Home.

The device is compatible with HomeKit, including Apple HomeKit Secure Video, which allows you to store recordings in iCloud. But this iCloud Plus subscription required and it limits streaming resolution to 1080P. If you prefer a free subscription, the Indoor Cam E30 includes a microSD card slot to store local footage that can be streamed to the Eufy mobile app in 4K. If you need more storage, the camera can also be connected to the Eufy for $149.99 HomeBase S380which can be expanded up to 16 TB. (Eufy promised to fix the privacy issues we discovered in 2022.)

Two-way audio lets you communicate remotely through the camera, perfect for telling your dog or cat to get off the couch while you’re at work. (Editor’s Note: Ever Listened to a Cat?) And while the included spotlight allows the Indoor Cam E30 to capture color video at night, it reduces the camera’s visibility in the dark to 16.4 feet. Using an infrared illuminator limits the camera to black and white only, but increases the range of vision to just over 32 feet.
