Three charged with murder in shooting of New Jersey detective during home invasion

October 29 (UPI) — Three people have been charged with murder and a fourth with obstructing an investigation in connection with the killing of a detective sergeant during a home invasion in New Jersey earlier this month, authorities said.

Detective Sergeant Monica Mosley, 51, of the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office was fatally shot on the night of October 15 when suspects broke into her home in Bridgeton, located in southern New Jersey, about 78 miles south of Trenton.

On Monday, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office announced the arrest of four people in connection with the crime.

Naishon Mutcherson, 29, Jared Brown, 31, and Richard Hawkins Willis, 32, of New Jersey, each face charges of first-degree murder, as well as a string of weapons and other crimes.

Cyndia Pimentel, 38, was charged with obstructing an investigation along with other related charges.

“The law enforcement community and the state of New Jersey have lost a steadfast and dedicated public servant, but we know that the loss of Sergeant Monica Moseley will be felt most deeply by her family, loved ones and colleagues,” said Cape May County District Attorney Jeffrey. – said Sutherland statement.

“While nothing will ever bring Sergeant Moseley back to those who loved her, we hope that a focused, coordinated effort in this case will give them the comfort of knowing that justice is being served.”

The Bridgeton Police Department said in a news release that officers were called to Mosley’s home at approximately 10:30 p.m. local time on Oct. 15 for reports of several suspects kicking in the front door of the residence.

Probable Cause Affidavit Received ABC News accuses Brown, Mutcherson and Willis of breaking into Mosley’s home and then shooting her.

Mosley was able to shoot Mutcherson in the chest before succumbing to his wounds, the affidavit said, adding that the three suspects then fled the scene while Mutcherson was treated for the gunshot wound at a Bridgeton hospital.
