Fires in Lenoir County | A minor has been charged in connection with two fires at the secondary school E. B. Frink in La Grange

LA GRANGE, NC (WTVD) — A juvenile faces multiple charges after deputies say he started two fires at a high school in La Grange.

According to the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to an alarm at E. Middle School. B. Frink around 6 pm on Thursday. When they arrived, they saw that a wreath was burning on the front door of the school. The fire was extinguished, and deputies began an investigation.

Authorities said deputies obtained video from the school and canvassed the La Grange area, but did not find the suspect.

On Saturday, the La Grange Volunteer Fire Department was called to the high school for a fire in a utility building on the grounds. According to deputies, the fire caused significant damage to the building.

The sheriff’s office said the juvenile suspect, who was a former EB Frink student, matched the description of a person seen on video shortly before the fire was taken into custody. He was also carrying a stolen and loaded weapon.

Authorities said that while executing a search warrant at the juvenile’s home, deputies found evidence linking the juvenile to Thursday’s incident.

The juvenile was transported to the Pitt County Juvenile Detention Center and charged with two counts of arson to school buildings or educational facilities, possession of a weapon on school property, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a handgun by a minor, criminal damage to real property, breaking and entering , second degree trespass.
