1 dead, 2 teenagers injured in Akron Halloween party shooting

Akron police are investigating a shooting that left an 18-year-old boy dead and two other teenagers injured Saturday night during what police believe was a Halloween party.

About 10:46 p.m., police arrived at a home in the 100 block of Paris Avenue and found Lash Ellis suffering from a serious gunshot wound, police said.

Police also found a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl who had also been shot. In both cases, the injuries are incompatible with life. Police said the two ran from the home after the shots were fired.

All three teenagers were taken to a nearby hospital, where Ellis was later pronounced dead, police said. The other two are expected to recover from their injuries.

During a Halloween party, an unknown man pulled out a gun and fired shots inside the home, striking the victims, police said.

“We were told that, you know, a group of people came to the party a very short period of time after at least one of those individuals pulled out a gun and started shooting. It’s not clear if this victim (Ellis) was. There is a belief that she was not,” Akron Police Capt. Michael Miller said.

Miller said they believe the home may have been used as a short-term rental. The shooting remains under investigation as police continue to search for partygoers who may know the answers.

“We would ask, as we often do, the people who were at the party to check their hearts and decide if they are willing to share anything with us that could advance this investigation,” Miller said.

Officers apprehended an 18-year-old man after a brief foot chase and recovered a handgun he discarded as he fled, police said. However, it is not known what role, if any, he played in the filming. He was booked into the Summit County Jail and charged with carrying a concealed weapon and obstructing official business.
