Being terrorized and intimidated, BEM, president of FISIP Unair, seeks protection from LBH Surabaya

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Head of the student executive committee or BEM with FISIP Unair Tuffahati Ulaya admitted receiving terror and threats through messaging apps WhatsApp and messages on his social media accounts.

Tuffa stated that he sought protection from the Institute of Legal Aid or LBH Surabaya on intimidation. “I am currently coordinating with LBH to secure my account,” said this anthropology student on Monday, October 28, 2024.

Intimidation and terror started after FISIP Unair BEM put up a satirical poster with words of welcome to the President Prabovo Subianto and Vice President Jebran Rakabuming Raka.

Tuffa noted that the terror began on Saturday night, October 26, 2024. The terror came in the form of text messages, phone calls and video calls from unknown WhatsApp numbers. In addition, his personal Instagram account and FISIP Unair also received numerous direct messages from accounts suspected of being addicted.

According to Tuffa, the messages conveyed similar sentences. For example, glorification of President Jokowi’s programs and threatening statements.

“The narratives being conveyed are more or less the same, for example, it is claimed that Jokowi is good and has successfully implemented programs. There are also threatening messages,” Tuffa said.

Before that, a photo of Prabovo-Djebran’s satirical congratulatory poster went viral on social networks. Accordingly, Din Bagong Suyanto of FISIP Unair issued a freeze order for the BEM administration. This freeze order sparked controversy, prompting Research, Technology and Higher Education Minister Satrio Soemantri Brojonegoro to file a request to lift the freeze order on Unair BEM’s FISIP.

“Yesterday evening, I informed the rector of Unair about the lifting of the freezing order on BEM Unair and he said he is ready,” Satrio told the media at the opening of the Language and Literature Month 2024 exhibition at the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. , Jakarta, on Monday, October 28, 2024.

After a meeting between Dean Bagong Suyanto of FISIP Unair and the BEM board, the freeze order was finally lifted. However, Bagong reminded that student criticism should be in line with academic ethics.
