An extended list of specifications for AMD’s upcoming Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor has been released on a European price comparison website. Geyzhals. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D is poised to become AMD’s de facto offering for gamers and may even push a few pros to try the chip based on initial performance leaks. Please be aware that such leaks may still contain inaccuracies even as we approach the expected official launch date.

Looking at the specs, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D will have eight cores and sixteen threads based on the latest Zen 5 microarchitecture. Showcasing the benefits of AMD’s second-generation V-Cache, the 9800X3D offers a boost clock of 5.2GHz and a base frequency of 4.7GHz, which is up 200MHz and 500 MHz higher than the 7800X3D respectively. The CPU has a nominal TDP of 120W, similar to its Raphael counterpart, so interested customers may not even need to upgrade their cooling setup, as the Ryzen 9000X3D chips are rumored to have better thermal performance than the last generation.

The hierarchy and allocation of cache memory does not change: 104 MB total cache (8 MB L2 + 32 MB internal L3 + 64 MB in the L3 stack). Memory support is upgradeable to DDR5-5600 (JEDEC) with one DIMM per channel. However, using two DIMMs per channel will reduce the speed to DDR5-3600.

Unlike the Ryzen 5000X3D and 7000X3D, the 9800X3D is specified with an unlocked multiplier, allowing extreme overclockers to set new world records in games and other workloads optimized for additional cache. The CPU will not include the standard AMD Wraith Stealth cooler when purchased, and we suggest users pair the 9800X3D with a liquid cooler for optimal results. Fun fact: The Tjmax temperature has also been increased from 89 degrees Celsius to 95 degrees Celsius, matching the Ryzen 9000 line without X3D.

A few early tests Ryzen 7 9800X3D actually placing it faster than its non-X3D counterparts in performance. Origins AMD is believed to have converted its V-Cache technology, in which the Ryzen 9000X3D series places the CCD arrays on top of the L3 cache block, rather than the other way around.

Despite this, AMD is preparing to release the Ryzen 7 9800X3D on November 7, but the price remains in question. has Lake Strelka disappointing performance if AMD has enough leeway to charge extra for the X3D tag? Or will Team Red stay true to its roots and look at a retail price of around $450 like it did with the previous two generations? Let’s see.
