ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – We’re in for a cold, sunny day before a storm brings wintry weather to start the weekend. Bright sun is expected today, in the afternoon the clouds will slowly thicken. The high temperature will be in the teens with an increased southwesterly wind.

A thunderstorm system will bring sleet and some pockets of freezing rain late this evening. This precipitation will move eastward overnight, reaching Rochester around midnight. Roads are likely to become slippery this evening, with much of the area covered in ice. Temperatures will hover in the teens this evening before rising into the 20s later, with southeasterly winds picking up.

Saturday is the first day of concern for snow and ice that could cause slippery road conditions. Expect freezing rain, sleet and snow during the day with a thin layer of ice. Snowfall totals could reach an inch or a little more in some places, but overall it appears to be a light layer of accumulation. Temperatures will hover in the low 30s, with gusty southeast winds as high as 25 mph.

High temperatures will reach 30 degrees this weekend. Readings will be in the 20s for most of next week.(KTTC)

Sunday will be a quiet day with less wind and warmer temperatures. High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 30s, warm enough to melt potential ice cover on surfaces.

Rain and snow is possible on Monday, and light snow will fall again on Wednesday. During the week, high temperatures will drop from 30 to 20 degrees.
