Delta police ask for witnesses, video after semi crash

Police in Delta are trying to gather more information about what led to a crash when a semi truck went over a concrete strip on a busy highway during rush hour this afternoon.

Officers were called to the scene in the 7500 block of Highway 17 at 3 p.m. Monday, according to a statement from the Delta Police Department.

No one was injured, but the road was closed for six hours.

“The fully loaded semi truck drove through the concrete center barrier, across two lanes of oncoming traffic and the concrete shoulder barrier. When it came to a stop, it blocked one eastbound lane, two westbound lanes and the westbound shoulder of Highway 17,” authorities said.

Authorities are asking for the public’s help as they work to determine the cause of the crash.

“In particular, officers are looking for any activity between the truck in question and any other vehicles traveling in the same direction at the time of the collision,” DPD said in a statement.

“If you witnessed any pre-collision behavior involving this truck or other vehicles around the truck, if you witnessed the collision itself, or if you have video, our collision investigators would like to speak with you.”

Anyone with information or video is asked to call 604-946-4411 and reference file number 2024-23160.
