Maui fire crews rescue man and girl swept away by raging river in Yao Valley

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Maui fire crews rescued a man and a girl who were swept away by a raging river in the Iao Valley on Sunday during heavy rains and flooding over the weekend.

Just before 2 p.m., the Maui Fire Department responded to a report of a man swept away by rapidly rising water.

A second person, a girl, was later reported also trapped elsewhere, MFD said.

Fire crews managed to get the man up and firefighters waded through the water to get the girl back to safety.

No casualties have been reported.

The rescue came amid flash flooding across the state, including Maui. Some areas received nearly 5 inches of rain in just a few hours Saturday morning.
