A fire that destroyed a barn near Kinbourn on Monday started when a car caught fire inside the shed, the Ottawa Fire Department said.

Firefighters were called to a farm on Kinbourne Side Road northeast of the village shortly after 1:15 p.m. when a 911 caller reported a car on fire and fuel and other combustibles in the barn.

The barn was filled with vintage carriages and sleds, the fire department said. There were no animals in the barn, and all the people got out safely.

When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke and flames coming from all four sides of the barn. A car ladder was installed to attack the fire from above. There are no fire hydrants on the territory, so firefighters used tankers to bring water from the Carp River to the scene.

The shed began to collapse at 2:12 p.m. The fire was extinguished at 16:08.

An excavator and an investigative team were called to extinguish the cells.
