‘Shame’ MSNBC accused of plugging Nazi clips into coverage of Trump rally on MSG

MSNBC used clips from Nazi rallies during its coverage of former President Donald Trump’s historic campaign event at Madison Square Garden in a last-ditch, desperate attempt to scare voters into supporting the Democratic nominee.

The left-wing network interwoven archival footage from a 1939 Nazi rally into its broadcast of Sunday’s Trump rally, which saw the iconic New York venue packed with jubilant supporters.

“The jamboree going on right now, in that place, is especially terrifying because in 1939, more than 20,000 supporters of another fascist leader — Adolf Hitler — gathered in the Garden for a so-called ‘pro-American rally,’” the Washington Post. said columnist, MSNBC contributor and avid Trump hater Jonathan Capehart, holding his breath as he scrolled through the footage.

Conservatives called Capehart’s juxtaposition of the two videos “disgraceful,” emphasizing the diversity of the crowd.

“Yesterday’s Trump rally was packed with Americans from all walks of life, including Orthodox, Conservative, Reform and secular Jews. I saw a woman in a burqa. It was nothing like a Nazi rally. Shame on MSNBC,” wrote one user X.

Tesla founder Elon Musk, who spoke at the rally, also called MSNBC — the No. 2 cable news network — “the scoundrel of the earth” on X, and some critics even went so far as to accuse the network of “incitement.”

Ben Bogardus, a professor of journalism ethics at Quinnipiac University, told The Post that networks like MSNBC are “blurring the lines” between opinion-based commentary and news, and that the rhetoric is heating up as we get so close to the election.

He said that while MSNBC’s intent may be to give viewers historical context for events like Trump’s MSG rally, the overuse of inflammatory imagery damages their credibility and the media in general.

“They are really doing their (public) a disservice when they post images from a rally 85 years ago that no one alive remembers. I think this is a bit of an exaggeration, which is very damaging to the media’s image among some sections of the population,” he said.

Throughout the campaign, Democrats have tried to portray themselves as the party of positivity, unity and “joy,” as Vice President Kamala Harris puts it. tried to emphasize during her acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention in August, when she called for a “new way forward.”

But instead, MSNBC compared Trump supporters to Nazis and made trite and over-the-top comparisons between the former president and the biggest monster in history.

On Monday morning’s “Morning Joe,” co-host Mika Brzezinski clutched her pearls, blasting Trump’s rally as “normalizing hate” and issuing a dire, unsubstantiated warning.

“Let’s not lose sight of what this leads to: it is a process that leads to fascism,” she said.

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a guest on “Morning Joe,” predicted that Trump’s MSG event was no ordinary campaign event.

“It was not just a political action. It was also not just a campaign rally. I think it’s very important that people understand that these are mini-rallies on January 6,” said the “Wife” member with a completely straight face.

“These are mini rallies, ‘stop the thefts.’ These are rallies to force the electorate to reject the election results if they don’t go the way they want.”

The Nazi comparisons have been particularly hollow, prompting some critics to say it reflects poorly on the media establishment as a whole.

“You don’t hate the media enough,” wrote Republican pundit Colin Rugg. “Holocaust survivor Jerry Wartsky attended tonight’s rally along with other Jewish supporters of Trump.”

Wartsky, 94, endorsed Trump last week in a campaign video sharply criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for calling the ex-president a “fascist”.

When asked why Jews should support Trump, the Auschwitz survivor said, “Because he’s a man.”
