Chad Stahelski, co-writer and director of the John Wick franchise, has shared some details about the mysterious upcoming John Wick anime project.

Stahelski first produced an anime version of the popular Lionsgate franchise in late 2023.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporterthe co-creator confirmed that the feature-length anime will be a prequel to the films. When asked if he would tell a story about John Wick (Keanu Reeves) “mission impossible” that allowed him to leave his life as a killer for love, Stahelski hinted, “Ish. You’re right, but it’s an animation. Some of the prequels and sequels you see in other franchises, we didn’t do it that way. We just want to have fun.”

He also teased that with the anime setting, the production team might “go a little crazier and crazier.”
