Bam Nuttall pleaded guilty after the death of Viking Windfarm

The construction company pleaded guilty after a man died on the site of a Viking Energy wind farm in 2022.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard how BAM Nuttall employee Liam MacDonald died following an accident on a construction site in Kergord on June 5, 2022.

Mr MacDonald, from Thane, was crushed by a concrete skip support while cleaning it with a hammer.

Despite performing CPR, an autopsy ruled that the 23-year-old died from his injuries, which included bleeding.

The crown prosecutor told the court how the hand holding the bails struck Mr McDonald in the chest with 160 newtons of pressure, the equivalent of 16 pounds of force.

The skip was used the morning before and should have been cleaned the same day of use.

The defense asked Sheriff Ian Cruikshank to treat the incident as a “one-off” despite his previous convictions.

Sheriff Cruikshank was also asked to review the “small profit” made by the company after a “significant” turnover last year.

The sheriff adjourned sentencing until December 18 to be heard at Lerwick Sheriff Court.
