A former police officer has pleaded not guilty to a fatal crash in North Kingstown

NORTH KINGSTOWN, Rhode Island (WPRI) — A Warwick man is accused of hit and killed a tricycle driver with his car in the summer in North Kingstown faced a judge Monday morning.

Daniel Famiglietti, 59, has pleaded not guilty to drink driving causing death and driving to endanger causing death.

According to police, Famiglietti was driving on Boston Neck Road back in June when he rear-ended Linda Sherman, 53, as she rode her tricycle in the emergency lane. Sherman was rushed to Kent Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Famiglietti resigned from the Providence Police Department in early 2022, police said. Familiatti was ordered held on $20,000 bond until his next court appearance, which is scheduled for Dec. 2.

Friends of Sherman previously told 12 News that she was a pillar in the community and a dedicated physiotherapist at Newport Hospital.
