Samsung One UI 7 improves security and privacy in the age of artificial intelligence: gives users more transparency

Samsung Electronics has announced the One UI 7 beta testing program, revealing an early look at enhanced security features exclusive to the Samsung Galaxy. At every level, the latest One UI protects personal data, giving all types of users choice, transparency and integrated security settings — because in the era of AI, there is no privacy without holistic security.

Knox Matrix opens up maximum transparency

Knox matrix is Samsung’s vision of the future, enhancing protection with multi-layered intelligent threat monitoring between connected Samsung devices. One UI 7 lays the foundation for a new level of security.

  • Knox Matrix tracks devices through the Trust Chain, secure private blockchain—and the new Knox Matrix dashboard presents an easier way to maintain transparent security across the ecosystem of connected devices. With One UI 7, it’s more intuitive than ever to instantly check the security status of multiple Samsung smart devices, including mobile devices, TVs and Galaxy home appliances. When all connected devices are updated and no risks are detected, they will appear as “green” or safe. Users can also see if a device is at risk, and the dashboard will display an actionable recommendation to mitigate the threat.
  • The new recovery method for Enhanced Data Protection adds ease and convenience to the process of retrieving data stored in Samsung Cloud. Enhanced data protection keeps connected devices synchronized and secure, and ensures users have a backup plan to prevent data loss if they lose access to a trusted device. With One UI 7, users can now transfer recovered personal data to a new device by verifying the screen lock factor (PIN, key or password) of their previous device.
  • Included in Knox Matrix’s Synchronization of credentialsSamsung has developed new ways to manage and protect identity and credentials for today’s hyper-connected world in the form of access keys. With One UI 7, users can now create and use access keys to sign in to their Samsung account. As digital authentication credentials, Access Keys provide a faster and easier way to securely log into apps, devices and websites so users can securely log into their TVs, AI Family Hub refrigerators and more simply by using their smartphones’ fingerprint sensor .

Maximum limits increase user control

Maximum limits creates a powerful line of defense against modern cyber threats. One UI 7 further expands user choice with new features designed to protect those who may need additional protections. Maximum Limits has been updated with the addition of network connection controls so users can enjoy peace of mind with enhanced protection without losing access to essential device features.

With added controls, users can block 2G services and prevent data interception when connected to potentially dangerous networks. Users can also prevent inadvertent automatic reconnection to certain Wi-Fi networks that may be less secure, ensuring data privacy, while still being able to manually reconnect if needed.

This update extends the existing set of Maximum Restrictions protections for Samsung Messages and Samsung Gallery, allowing users to remove location data from shared photos, prevent automatic downloads of attachments, and block hyperlinks, previews, and shared albums.

More security settings provide additional device protection

One UI 7 introduces even more ways for users to customize their security settings to best suit the ways they use their device. Users can lock the USB connection to prevent any other access through the USB port when the device is locked except for charging the battery.

To protect against third-party download malware, One UI 7’s new secure installation system works together with Auto Blocker to send a warning when a user tries to download from an unauthorized source, alerting them to security risks and preventing accidental third-party downloads on Galaxy devices in to the whole world

Anti-theft protection improves data privacy

One UI 7 introduces new features only available on Galaxy devices to Android’s suite of anti-theft solutions, improving precautions in place so that personal data remains safe even if devices are lost or stolen.

In addition to Anti-Theft Lock, Offline Device Lock, and Remote Lock, Galaxy users can now take additional security measures with Identity Verification, a feature designed to be selected if the device’s PIN becomes compromised. If suspicious activity is detected, users can rest assured that these exclusive Galaxy protections will work.

  • In an unfamiliar location, biometric authentication is required to make any changes to critical security settings that could put personal information at risk.
  • As an added precaution, a one-hour security delay will prevent unauthorized users from making any immediate changes to the device.

One UI 7 is the next step in Samsung’s commitment to AI privacy, introducing advanced security features to ensure complete protection in the AI era. The official release of One UI 7 will begin with future Galaxy S series devices, which will have additional AI capabilities, including advanced, hardware-dependent AI features on the device, starting in the first quarter of 2025. In line with Samsung’s commitment to expanding its OS update policy, the update will gradually roll out to other Galaxy devices.

The One UI 7 beta program was first available for Galaxy S24 series devices in Germany, India, Korea, Poland, UK, and the US starting December 5. Users of the Galaxy S24 series can apply for the beta program through Samsung Members.
