MSNBC combines footage of the Nazi rally and the Trump event at Madison Square Garden

MSNBC aired footage of a Nazi rally at Madison Square Garden in its report Donald Trump’s campaign rally in the same place.

Footage shows crowds giving Nazi salutes and a parade of flag-carrying officials marching through the historic New York site.

“In 1939, more than 20,000 supporters of another fascist leader, Adolf Hitler, filled the garden for a so-called pro-American rally,” said host Jonathan Capehart.

“Against this backdrop of history, Donald Trump — a man who has threatened to use the military against opponents he calls ‘enemies from within,’ who has threatened to use the military to suppress what he says are lawless cities and to use those troops to carry out mass deportations of immigrants — again turns Madison Square Garden into a springboard for extremism.”

Tim Waltzthe Democratic vice presidential candidate, drew similar comparisons between the 1939 event and Trump’s rally on Sunday.

“Donald Trump organized this big rally at Madison Square Garden,” Mr. Waltz said at an event in Henderson, Nevada.

“There is a direct parallel with the great rally that took place in the mid-1930s at Madison Square Garden.”

He added: “And don’t think for a second that he doesn’t know exactly what they’re doing there.”

In recent weeks, Trump has faced accusations of fascism his competitors from the Democratic campaign.
