SHELBY, Ohio. A Shelby police sergeant has been released from the hospital after being stabbed in the neck while trying to arrest a man known to police.

Sergeant Noah Kocher shot and killed Tyler Jacobs Saturday night at an Arby’s restaurant.

He is currently on paid leave while the investigation is ongoing.

Dash cam video released by Shelby police begins with Kocher casually walking into the Arby’s on Mansfield Avenue.

He asked if Jacobs, 31, was in the back of the restaurant.

Kocher can be heard telling his partner to keep an eye on the black door. You then see Jacobs wake up from behind the counter.

“How are you man? You know why I’m here, no, you know you have a warrant out for Tyler’s arrest? for what For failing to appear in court,” Kocher told Jacobs.

The video shows Jacobs swinging his right hand at the sergeant, who was stabbed in the neck.

Seconds later, gunshots are heard as police say Jacobs runs toward the sergeant with a knife in hand.

“I’m bleeding from my neck, send me a squad as soon as possible,” Sergeant Kocher said.

Police went to Arby’s to serve a warrant on Jacobs for failing to appear in court.

On Oct. 30, the same sergeant confronted Jacobs less than a mile from Arby’s. Records show another officer tried to stop Jacobs after he crossed the road at night on a bicycle without lights.

According to the records, Jacobs drove past Kocher and looked him straight in the eye as he tried to flee.

But then the motorcycle crashed into another officer’s cruiser.

Police found more than $8,000 in Jacobs’ backpack, along with cellphones, SIM cards, a laptop, a face covering, gloves and a knife.

Jacobs’ police record dates back to 2017, including a DUI crash in Mansfield in 2021.

Regarding Arby’s attack and police firing, the BCI is investigating.
