Law enforcement agencies are searching for a man who escaped from a work release facility in Waterloo

WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) – Officials in Waterloo are asking for help finding a man who has not returned to a work release facility.

Deonnis Javir Gates was convicted of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury and intimidation with a dangerous weapon in Black Hawk County.

Iowa Department of Corrections officials say he was booked into Waterloo Correctional Facility on March 12, but failed to report as required Sunday.

Gates is a 20-year-old black male, 6 feet 0 inches tall and 188 pounds.

Anyone with any information on his whereabouts is asked to contact their local police department.
