A Montgomery man was killed in a head-on collision in Newburgh

CITY OF NEWBERG. A Montgomery man was killed and a Wallkill man was injured when their vehicles collided head-on on Highway 32 Thursday morning.

Newburgh police said the collision happened shortly after 11 a.m

According to police, a preliminary investigation determined that a 2007 Ford Econoline van driven by Leonel Marquez-Martinez, 36, of Wallkill, was southbound on Highway 32, and a 2015 Chevrolet Volt, driven by Marcus Bennett, 26, of Montgomery, was traveling north on Highway 32 when their vehicles collided head-on.

Bennett was pronounced dead at the scene by the Orange County Medical Examiner.

Marquez-Martinez was taken to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh, where he was treated and listed in stable condition.

City police continue to investigate the collision. Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call 845-564-1100.

City police were assisted at the scene by state police, Plattekill police, Newburgh EMS and Cronomer Valley and Plattekill fire departments.
