2 fatal shootings rock southeast D.C

WASHINGTONThe police are looking for a suspect in another murder in the city Southeast District of Columbia It was the second in less than 24 hours.

The violence erupted near the Congress Heights subway station, two blocks from the entertainment and sports complex that is home to the Washington Mystics.

“Criminality. It’s literally this crime that’s ruining the whole Southeast experience,” resident Erica White told FOX 5.

There was a shooting Saturday afternoon involving a BMW that crashed into a fence at 13th Street and Alabama Avenue. Police say one man in the car was shot and killed.

Bullet holes were cut through the driver’s side window of the car, and shell casings lay on the ground near the car and down the street.

“I think it’s very sad. I’ve lived here in this area for about seven years, and we just want to be able to walk, have events and have a good time, and it’s right down the street from my house,” White said. “You’ve questioned me before about another crime that happened years ago, and to be honest, I’m trying to get out of that area. It doesn’t get better.”

Another fatal shooting occurred in the county on Friday afternoon in the 2800 block of Langston Place, Southeast — a little more than a mile from Saturday’s crime scene.

Police told FOX 5 that a man and a 16-year-old boy were shot. This teenager was killed and has been identified as Darren Johnson.

“People are dying left and right as you can see behind us. People are dying – more and more young every day,” said Quincy Williams. “I’m just asking everyone in Washington to just lay down their guns. Stop the violence.”

FOX 5 met Williams and Ondre Perry at the scene of Saturday’s shooting in Southeast.

“It becomes very frustrating because almost every family from this region, from the South, that has migrated here has been affected by gun violence,” Perry said.

On Saturday night, police released images of a silver sedan they say was taken along Alabama Avenue, killing the driver of the BMW in the street.

At this time, the suspects in both murders in the southeast are still on the run.
