PIA flight attendant detained for ‘smuggling’ mobile phones

A flight attendant of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) was arrested by customs authorities at the Islamabad airport after returning from Canada for allegedly trying to smuggle mobile phones into the country.

Faisal Majeed, who arrived on PIA flight PK-782 from Toronto on October 24, was reportedly found with 16 mobile phones strapped to his body during a search by customs officials. He was immediately taken into custody.

Sources revealed that Majeed was traveling on a tourist visa and was returning to Islamabad when the new smartphones were allegedly delivered to him.

The PIA management issued a show-cause notice to Majeed, demanding an explanation within three days, and started an inquiry against him. Failure to provide a satisfactory response could lead to his dismissal, according to a PIA spokesperson.

“Your act has affected the reputation of the national airline PIA,” the administration said.

The national carrier emphasizes a zero-tolerance policy for employee misconduct, with a spokesperson saying: “Any illegal activity by employees is unacceptable and we do not condone those who engage in illegal activity.”

The spokesman confirmed that Majid remains in the custody of customs authorities, who continue to investigate the case.
