IID Announces Delay in Release of Body Camera Footage of Maryland Police Incident

The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Attorney General’s Office has announced a delay in the release of body camera footage of the in-custody death of a police officer that occurred on October 26, 2024 in Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland. According to the IID, the delay is due to the need for additional time to interview witnesses.

Under normal circumstances, the IID protocol obliges to publish such videos within 20 working days after the incident. However, the protocol also specifies the conditions under which this deadline may be extended, including the need for more thorough interviewing of witnesses, technical redaction for privacy or security reasons, or conditions for review by family members or officers involved before public release.

IID has committed to transparency by notifying the public of this delay and stating the reason. For more information, the original press release is available here.
