A German tourist was seriously injured after being bitten by a large fish while swimming in Thailand

BANGKOK. A German tourist was injured on November 29 after being bitten by a large fish while swimming near Khao Lak Beach in Thailand’s Phang Nga Province.

A 57-year-old man received a deep wound – about 15 cm wide and 30 cm long – on his left leg.

Local authorities, including Takua Pa District Sheriff, Tourism Business Association President Phang Nga, and Marine Resources officials attended the scene to investigate the incident.

A 29-year-old rescuer from a nearby hotel said that the tourist called for help while in the water.

When they approached the tourist, they found a severe bite wound. Although initial speculation indicated a shark attack, authorities are awaiting expert analysis to confirm the species of fish.

The injured tourist was taken to a hospital in Phuket province.

Local authorities and hotel operators have placed red flags on the beach to warn tourists of the potential danger. They also issued an advisory urging swimmers to use caution.

The Phang Nga Tourism Business Association said it is working with relevant stakeholders to further investigate the matter and implement additional security measures. ASIA NATIONAL NEWS NETWORK
