Biden responded to bomb threats against Trump’s cabinet

President Joe Biden has announced that his administration is cooperating with the FBI in an investigation into a series of bomb threats and “shooting” incidents against lawmakers and several of President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet nominees.

The threats, which emerged earlier this week, rattled both Democratic lawmakers and Trump’s transition team. Biden condemned the threats, calling them a form of political harassment aimed at destabilizing the civil service.

“We are working closely with the FBI to ensure the safety of our elected officials and nominees for President Trump’s new administration,” Biden said, speaking from Nantucket, Massachusetts, where he spent the Thanksgiving holiday.

Among those attacked were Rep. Seth Magaziner, a Democrat from Rhode Island, and six Connecticut lawmakers who received bomb threats in their homes.

Fortunately, the law enforcement officers reacted quickly and did not find traces of explosive devices. However, these incidents raised serious concerns about the spread of such violent intimidation tactics.

Targeting — a dangerous practice in which false reports are made to incite armed police — has also been used against prominent political figures, including Pete Hagseth, Trump’s pick for US defense secretary, and Lee Zeldin, appointed to lead the Environmental Protection Agency. The threats came on Tuesday and Wednesday, raising tensions as Trump prepares to take office in January.

Hakeem Jeffries, the leader of the House of Representatives of the Democratic Party, assured the public that the threats will not prevent his party from carrying out its duties. “House Democrats will not be intimidated by threats of violence. We will continue to serve the people without fear,” Jeffries said in a statement.

These latest threats come months after an assassination attempt on Trump in Pennsylvania in July, in which he was wounded, and a separate incident in Florida, where a man was charged with attempted murder after appearing near one of Trump’s golf courses in September

As the Biden and Trump transition teams continue to work together, Biden expressed confidence that both parties will remain united against attempts to intimidate elected officials and candidates.

“I look forward to speaking with President Trump again soon during the transition process,” Biden said, stressing that security will remain a top priority.

The rise in violent threats reflects growing concerns about political extremism and persecution, and law enforcement agencies are stepping up efforts to stop such dangerous activity.

The FBI has been called upon to thoroughly investigate these threats and ensure the safety of those in public service.
