The Eastern director reveals details about the film’s sequel

Ultraman has been around for decades, but last year the Japanese superhero gained quite a bit of popularity. Netflix has teamed up with Tsuburaya Productions to bring the icon to life Ultraman: The Rise was the result. The cartoon updated the origin Ultraman for a new generation, and Ultraman: The Rise soon became a cult its launch. The film’s director is currently making a sequel, so it’s time to ask Netflix for a sequel.

The reveal was announced at Lightbox Expo 2024 when Shannon Tindle appeared alongside John Aoshima. The co-directors spoke in detail about the work on the creation Ultraman: The Riseand when asked about a sequel, Tindle wasn’t afraid to talk about his plans.

“While the sequel Ultraman: The Rise may never happen, I have an idea that I’m excited to share and I’ve been working on it myself,” Tindle told fans on social media and about his plans for Ultraman: The Rise sounds like nothing short of perfection.

Ultraman: Rising has a sequel in the works (but there’s a catch)

According to the director, the working title for his sequel Ultraman: Fallenand he will touch on some difficult topics (through Collider). The film is already in the works, and Tindle says the film will focus on Emiko Sato, Ken’s mother, who has been missing for years. The movie will be about Emiko as she is the founder Kaiju Defense League, the antagonists of the first film. Ultraman: Fallen will then focus on Emiko’s estrangement from her family as Ken continues to explore his role as Ultraman.

Oh, and there will be a new kaiju. Don’t worry about it. Ultraman: Fallen would threaten the Earth with some more threats, and they could very well come from the birthplace of the kaiju. The the future is up in the air where Ultraman: The Rise worriedbut fans hope that the story will continue.

It’s clear that Tindle is optimistic about the future, but the director admits that a sequel order isn’t guaranteed. During this year’s Lightbox Expo, Aoshima hedged when asked about a sequel. Given the picky nature of Netflix, it’s hard to predict whether the film will get a sequel Ultraman: The Rise is in this mess.

It’s time to respect the Ultraman name
