Nicholas Wayne Hamlett, 45, is wanted in the first degree after authorities discovered he was using the identity of the deceased.

Officials said they received a call on Oct. 18 from a poor hiker who said he had fallen off a cliff while running away from a bear.

Authorities determined the call came from the Charles Hall Bridge area and dispatched it.

The Sheriff’s Office said they have identified the deceased as Brandon Christopher Andrade.

Upon further investigation, detectives determined that the deceased person was not Brandon Andrade and that the ID was stolen.

Authorities said they discovered the ID was used by Hamlet multiple times.

Hamlett also used an assumed name when speaking to law enforcement after a distressed tourist called, officials said.

Hamlett is wanted for first-degree murder, and anyone who sees him or knows of his whereabouts is asked to call law enforcement.
