Another arrested, internet services still suspended

Police have made one more arrest in connection with the violence in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, taking the total number of arrests to 28.

The latest arrest, made late Wednesday night, is for disturbing the peace during the riot. The arrested accused has been identified as Farhat, 54, resident of Chaudhary Sarai, Sambal.

Security has been tightened and internet access remains suspended in the violence-plagued area.

The violence occurred on November 24 during a court-ordered inspection of a local mosque in Sambhal. The situation escalated when stones were pelted at the survey team, leading to chaos in the area.

In an effort to identify those involved in the incident, police on Wednesday released posters of 45 suspects based on CCTV footage. The posters contain images and the names and addresses of several individuals.

Moradabad Commissioner Anjaneya Kumar Singh earlier confirmed that 27 arrests have already been made in connection with the violence, with a total of seven FIRs registered so far. Internet services in the area remain suspended as a safety precaution.

“Following due process and following the directions of the honorable courts, we are making every effort to identify those involved in the violence,” Singh said.
