Police have released CCTV footage as the investigation into the death of a McKay man continues

Police have identified a critical two-hour window in the investigation into the death of a 67-year-old man from Queensland.

John Patrick Hackett’s family found him dead in his Gold Street unit in Mackay on the evening of Saturday, November 9.

The crime scene was announced after a forensic examination revealed traces of an attack.

Investigators have now released CCTV footage of Mr Hackett at an East Mackay grocery store, about 150 meters from his home, in the early hours of Tuesday, November 5.

Detective Inspector Emma Novosel said police believe an incident later that day – Melbourne Cup day – may be linked to Mr Hackett’s death.

“We believe there was some sort of altercation between John and another person, either at the grocery store or in the area of ​​his home on Gold Street,” she said.

“We have information that indicates John was injured sometime between the footage we released and Wednesday morning.”

She said Mr Hackett suffered facial injuries.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who was in the Gold Street area between 5pm and 7pm on Tuesday, November 5.

Mr. Hackett was last known to be alive two days later, on Thursday, November 7.

We urge witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.
