Seven people were hit by a vehicle during a fight that broke out early Sunday in the Rosemont-La Petite-Patri area.

The party was taking place at a reception hall on Belanger St. near 6th Avenue when a fight broke out inside at about 3:25 a.m., police said. The conflict continued outside.

“Police found two injured people on the sidewalk,” Montreal police spokeswoman Veroninque Dubuque said. “They were taken to the hospital, but we do not fear for their lives.”

After 30 minutes, five more wounded were reported.

“Another 911 call was made to inform police that five other people involved in the same incident were themselves taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” said another police spokeswoman, Caroline Chevrefils.

The victims were men and women aged 29 to 47. The motive for the attack remains unknown, but is part of an investigation by Montreal police.

“According to preliminary information received by police on the scene, there was an altercation that occurred during a gathering in the waiting room,” said a Dubuque police spokesman.

“People left the venue and the car hit seven people before fleeing the scene.”

A security perimeter was built to protect the scene, and forensic technicians were called to the scene. Traffic in this section was reopened around 6:30 am

It is not known what the connection, if any, is between the victims and their alleged attacker.

The driver of the vehicle is still being sought.
