According to international observers, Georgia’s election was marred by an uneven playing field, pressure and tension, but voters were offered a wide choice

Although voters were asked to choose between 18 candidate lists, and candidates were generally free to campaign, Georgia’s parliamentary elections were marred by entrenched polarization and concern over recently passed legislation and its impact on fundamental freedoms and civil society, as well as divisive rhetoric in election campaign and widely reported voter pressure, international observers said in a statement today.
