LIVE: Swarms of Gardaí and helicopters circling Irish town amid alarming reports

A frantic search resumed on Sunday after reports that a person had “entered the water” in City of Wexford for the night

Gardaí and the Irish Coastguard rushed to the scene in the early hours of Sunday morning after reports of distress.

In a statement to the media, the Irish Coastguard said: “At approximately 2.05am the Irish Coastguard was alerted to an incident in Wexford where a member of the public was reported to have entered the water.

“Rosslare/Carnsore and Curracloe Coastguard units, Wexford RNLI inshore lifeboats and the Waterford-based Coastguard R117 helicopter were dispatched to the scene with the assistance of Gardaí who were also present at the scene.

“After a thorough survey of the area at approximately 5am, the search was suspended until 07:30am to improve local conditions for search operations.

“The search has resumed involving Rosslare/Carnsore and Curracloe Coastguard units, Wexford RNLI and the Dublin Coastguard R116 helicopter,” they concluded.
