HIGH POINT — The fatal shooting of a 32-year-old man in the northwest High Point neighborhood on Oct. 19 appears to have been an accident, according to a police incident report and a 911 call from a witness at the scene of the shooting.

Hasson Duane Williams of Greensboro died of a gunshot wound to the head at a home in the 400 block of Ridgebrook Drive. A High Point Police Department incident report indicated that several people inside the home said two people were holding a Glock 9mm handgun when he fired.

In a recording of the emotional eight-minute call to 911, a woman who was at the home told 911 dispatchers that Williams had been shot “by mistake.” The woman said Williams and another man were holding guns when she fired.

The distraught woman, sobbing during the call, told the dispatcher that Williams was barely breathing.

“Oh, my God,” wailed the woman. “I have to call his mother.”

Loud voices and chaotic noise could be heard in the background of the call. The ambulance dispatcher tried to calm the woman, because there was an ambulance at the entrance.

Police provided few details about the fatal shooting in a news release Thursday, saying the case had been turned over to the State Bureau of Investigation because one person at the scene of the shooting was related to a local elected official, though the official was not named.

The business requested the incident report and 911 recording, which are public records, Thursday. They were released on Friday.
