Veteran actor Annu Kapoor, known for his performances in both Bollywood and television, recently shared an interesting story about his close bond with two of Bollywood’s most famous personalities: Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar.

While talking to ANI, Kapoor, who has been in the industry for decades, opened up about his role in their marriage. Speaking fondly about his close bond with the Azmi family, Kapoor said, “Let me admit that I was close to only three film families. The first was Azmi’s family – Shabana Azmi, her late mother, her late father Kaifi. Saab and her brother Baba Azmi gave me immense love, affection and respect and later Javed Akhtar also became a part of that bond.”

Kapoor then revealed that he helped them get married on a “December night” and told how he convinced the couple to go ahead with the ceremony. “He was sitting there, drunk. She was sitting elsewhere, busy reading a book. I was there and told her, ‘Bibi, just go ahead, make up your mind once and for all.'” Javed was completely devastated. She said, “How can I solve?” I walked over to him and thought for a bit, and he mumbled, “Yeah, I’m ready.”

The actor also shared how he rushed to invite a Maulvi (priest) from the Bandra mosque to perform the Nikah. “Their driver’s name was Michel. I said to him, “Let’s go, Michelle.” I rushed to invite the Maulvi from the Bandra mosque. Shabana’s mother pulled out a traditional red wedding dress. Then I called Boney Kapoor and Anil Kapoor. Everyone came and there was dancing and celebrating until about 4 or 5 in the morning, after which they finally got married,” the actor said.
