A young man was seriously injured when his quad bike was involved in a collision on Birmingham’s west side.

Shots were fired in the 2400 block of Avenue D around 6:45 p.m. Saturday.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald said a vehicle fleeing the scene struck a 12-year-old boy riding an ATV in the area.

The driver who hit the child fled on foot. Birmingham patrol officers took him into custody a few blocks from the scene.

The boy was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Fitzgerald said the BPD’s Traffic Homicide Unit is handling the investigation.
