Snapchat is rolling out new safety features for teens

(WSAW) – Snapchat is improving its parenting tools with new location-sharing features to keep teens safe.

Nona Yadegar is a director and chief product officer at Snap. According to her, the biggest changes concern the exchange of geodata.

“We’re also offering parents the ability to see which friends their teen shares geolocation with, and finally, we’ll let parents set up to three locations, such as school, home or work, and receive notifications whenever their teen walks to or from one from those places,” said Yadegar.

Snapchat always has geo-sharing turned off by default, and rightly so there is no the ability to ever share a location with someone who is not an eligible friend. For people who share their location with all their friends on Snapchat, the company is adding new in-app reminders to view selections. Snapchat users will see a pop-up when they add a new friend who may be outside of their real network, prompting them to take extra care with their settings.

New features will be available in the coming weeks.
