NEW ORLEANS — Two people were killed and 10 others were wounded in two separate shootings along a New Orleans parade and celebration attended by thousands of people Sunday, authorities said. There were no immediate arrests.

Officers responding to a report of a shooting shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Avenue in the city’s St. Roch neighborhood found eight victims with gunshot wounds, according to a news release from the New Orleans Police Department. All eight were taken to the hospital in unknown condition. Later, the police reported that the ninth injured person arrived at the hospital in a private car.

About 45 minutes later, police received another report of gunfire as revelers crossed the Almonaster Avenue Bridge, just over half a mile (0.8 km) to the north. One person died on the spot, another died in hospital, the police said. The third victim was taken to the hospital in a private car, his condition is stable, the police report.

No arrests have been announced, and no suspect information has been released. The St. Roch area is outside the French Quarter of the city, which is popular with tourists, located a few blocks to the northeast of the quarter.

The Almonastyr Bridge was closed in both directions while investigations were conducted.

Police Superintendent Ann Kirkpatrick said detectives did not immediately know if the incidents were related.

“It was … different kinds of approaches,” she said of the shooting, which happened in an area where the “second line,” a post-parade celebration, was taking place.

Thousands of people turned out for the Nine Times Social Aid & Pleasure Club’s annual outing in the 9th arrondissement, organizer Oscar Brown said. NOLA.com.

“It’s a great event and we want to keep it great,” Kirkpatrick said.

Since then, it was the second major shooting in the south of the country shooting marred the weekend at Tuskegee University in Alabama on Nov. 10 that left one person dead and 16 others injured, dozens of them by gunshots, authorities said.
