Matt Wallace has been ripped to shreds by golf social media after his shocking performance in Dubai

Matt Wallace has come under fire from social media for golf after footage showed him throwing his iron into the green after a bogey on the par-5 14th during the final round of play. DP World Tour Championship on a dirt course at Jumeirah Golf Estates.

Wallace, 34, missed the fairway on the par-5 14th and was forced to hang up.

The fiery Englishman has 177 yards to the pin.

After a little swing of the club to suggest he liked it, Wallace’s ball went short left in the bunker near the green.

Sky Sports Golf lady Laura Davies initially said: “He totally misjudged it, yeah, I don’t blame him…”

But then Davis quickly realized that Wallace and his caddy, Jamie Lane, were both leaving without repairing the hefty patch of turf that Wallace had just taken from the pristine Earth Course.

“Well, he has to repair it, it’s not very good to leave it.”

Afterwards Nick Dougherty of Sky Sports Golf said: “Awww Matt…”.

Whether or not Wallace or Lane actually returned to repair the extensive damage to the fairway remains to be seen, but judging by the video, they both walked ahead without paying any attention.

Wallace, a five-time DP World Tour winner, went on to bogey six on the 14th hole en route to closing with a 71.

He finished the week at 8-under par for the tournament at T11.

The video angered many golf fans who were stunned by Wallace’s actions.

This is too bad, fix the damage FFS. It could cost someone a tournament and he would be furious if it happened to him. So much goodwill about how he improved his attitude is undone and all he had to do was repair it.

It is necessary to be fined for bad behavior. Imagine that in the Ryder Cup.

What about him and Hutton?

Terrible behavior.

Imagine leaving a dev like this and not even replacing him or his caddy is a complete disgrace.

Wallace’s tantrum came 24 hours after his compatriot Tyrrell Hutton was killed by Sky Sports Golf’s Ewan Murray and Paul McGinley.

Hutton hurled a few profanities, hit a putter on the green and inexplicably broke an iron, also on the par-5 14th hole.

Despite Hutton and Wallace’s tantrums at the weekend, the English duo remain firmly in the European Ryder Cup standings until 2025.

Hutton currently leads the points race with Wallace in third.

It will likely be a challenge for Hutton to remain at the top next season as he returns to LIV Golf in February.

But Hutton has made it clear that he intends to play as many DP World Tour events as possible in 2025 in order to qualify for the Ryder Cup without claiming captain’s choice.

Rasmus Hoygaard, Rory McIlroy, Paul Waring and Niklas Norgaard currently make up the top six, but of course there is still a long way to go until automatics are decided in September 2025.

The top six in the standings will automatically qualify for Luke Donald’s European Ryder Cup team.

Donald will then have six elections.
