“I often think about it”

“I often think about it”

A star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame literally secures many talents a permanent place in the entertainment industry, but as depicted in Korali Fargit‘s body horror satire”Substance”, the star can also symbolize insecurity in trying to secure their legacy and value. Despite this toxic foundation, the star film, Demi Moorerecently shared in Los Angeles Times interview how she wouldn’t mind receiving that honor soon.

“I think that would be cute,” Moore said. “I think about it often, less for myself and more for my children and their children. There was talk of doing it this year, it felt like, “Wow. The timing would be perfect.“But there’s still a bit of red tape.”

Acknowledging how the Star on the Walk of Fame is used in The Substance and what it means for her character Elizabeth Sparkle, Moore added: “I really like how she goes back to the star, like she’s reaching for what she sees as love, which she always longed for.”

While she may share some of Sparkle’s insecurities and problems with beauty and vanity, Moore admits that the character is very far from her real life, especially how lonely Sparkle’s life seems.

“I have a family. I had children at 25,” Moore told the LA Times. “She’s an extreme version of a person who places her whole value on the recognition of other people. Parts of Elizabeth’s story really struck a chord with me, namely the violence we can do to ourselves himself in pursuit of some idea of perfection.”

Moore’s true mindset leans more towards gratitude and acceptance, as trying to fight the cards life deals you is a foolish thing to do. Trying to interrupt the normal process, as Elizabeth tries to do in The Substance, is really against the way Moore works, but she understands the impulse.

“What someone does or doesn’t do doesn’t matter. Everything happens in life for to me, not to me,’ she said. “That doesn’t mean I always like it or that everything goes the way I want it to. But you can’t just choose that philosophy when things are going your way. I look at the challenges of my childhood and realize, “Wow! It really gave me strength, drive, and the ability to take risks.” Would I be as driven if everything was cozy?”

“The Substance” is currently showing in theaters and is available to stream on MUBI or PVOD.
