All About Nayanthara and Dhanush Controversy; 10 million rupees controversy explained in a 3-second clip!

Tamil actress Nayanthara publicly expressed her disappointment with actor Dhanush in a long open letter on her Instagram on November 16, 2024. This was due to the use of a three-second clip from their 2015 film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in Nayanthara’s upcoming Netflix documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale. It started when Dhanush, who produced the original film, sent a formal notice demanding Rs 10 crore in damages for what he claims was unauthorized use of footage from the film.
In a letter posted on social media by the ‘Jawan’ actress, she accused Dhanush of harboring a personal grudge against her and her husband, director Vignesh Shivan. She expressed her disappointment that Dhanush refused to grant permission to make the music video despite their repeated requests over two years.
Nayanthara described the lawsuit as an “all-time low” and criticized Dhanush for his perceived hypocrisy, saying he does not practice the positivity he preaches in public.
In the post she wrote: “We were shocked to read these lines in which you questioned the use of some videos (only 3 seconds) that were shot on our personal devices, as well as BTS videos that are already widely shared on social media. and demanded a refund of Rs 10 in just 3 seconds and that says so much about your character, I wish you were half the person you portray yourself to be on stage during audio launches in front of your innocent fans but obviously you are not practice what you preach, at least for me and my partner.”

Now, the clip in this whole controversy is the behind-the-scenes footage from ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’, which is important for Nayanthara and Vineesh as it marks the beginning of their love story.
Nayantara’s documentary features stories about her life as an actress, daughter, sister and friend. One of the key moments of the documentary is Nayantara’s wedding to Vignesh Shivan and her entire career, including her journey to motherhood through surrogacy. The premiere of the documentary is scheduled for November 18.
Nayanthara is supported by many actors in the film industry. Parvathy Thiruvothu, Shruti Haasan, Anupama Parmeswaran, Nazriya Fahadh, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Dia Mirza, Nazriya Nazim and other actresses who have worked with Dhanush in the past also shared their support by liking or commenting on the social media post.

Dhanush’s legal team responded by emphasizing that he owns the rights to the footage as a producer and demanded that it be removed within 24 hours. The legal statement reads: “My client is the producer of the film and they know where they spent every penny in the production of the film and your client stated that my client did not commission anyone to make the film frame by frame and the said allegation is baseless and your client has strong evidence of it.’
