The principal of Xavier High School has been fired after a complaint received by the Diocese of Green Bay

APPLETON, Wis. (WBAY) – Xavier High School Principal Mike Mauth has been terminated, according to a letter sent to Xavier families Thursday.

The letter said the Diocese of Green Bay had received a complaint against Maute, prompting them to open an investigation.

It goes on to say that since this complaint concerns a personnel issue, “no further details can be provided.”

Action 2 News reached out to the Diocese of Green Bay and the Appleton Police Department, but did not receive a response.

According to his biography on the Xavier Catholic Schools websiteMaute grew up in Menashe and began his career at Xavier in 1996. He left his teaching job at Xavier in 2012 to become principal of Lourdes Academy Middle and High School in Oshkosh. In 2014, he returned to Xavier as director.

Dear Xavier families!

We regret to inform you that the Diocese of Green Bay’s Office of Safe Environment has received a complaint which has initiated an investigation. As a result, Mr. Mike Maute no longer works at St. Francis Xavier High School. Since this is a personnel matter, additional details cannot be provided.

The safety of our children is our number one priority. We understand that this news may be upsetting and we are committed to supporting you along with our students and staff. On Friday, Nov. 15, Xavier High School will have three Catholic Charities mental health counselors available to staff and students.
