After a physical fight, shots rang out in an apartment in Ithaca

A dispute between several individuals turned into a shooting early Saturday morning, prompting a quick response from the Ithaca Police Department. Authorities say the incident happened in the 600 block of Chestnut Street, where shots were fired into an apartment shortly after a physical altercation.

Police received the first reports of the dispute at approximately 5:00 a.m. when they responded to the scene. While en route, several 911 callers reported hearing gunfire in the area. Arriving at the scene, the police found evidence that after a physical confrontation, shots were fired at the house. Fortunately, despite the fact that the house was occupied, no one was injured.

Investigators collected several pieces of evidence that corroborate the testimony of those involved. Police confirmed the parties were known to each other and that the incident was not random, allaying concerns about a wider threat to the community.

The investigation is ongoing and authorities are looking for additional information that could help solve the case. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Ithaca Police Department at 607-272-3245.
