Boxer on Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson undercard claims fight was ‘fixed’ | Boxing sport

Jake Paul and Mike Tyson are embroiled in controversy after allegations their fight was “fixed”, according to a fighter on the undercard.

Despite his youth and energy, the YouTube-turned-boxer Paul seemed to hold his own against Tyson, leading to an 80-72, 79-73, 79-73 unanimous decision in Paul’s favor. In an unusual display, Paul even bowed to Tyson in the final moments of the match.

Post-fight commentary fueled speculation about the fight’s legitimacy. Sarah Bailey, the WBA women’s bantamweight champion who supported Lucas Bahdi on the undercard, openly called the fight a sham when speaking to ES NEWS: “Yes, it has been fixed, sorry.” Bahdi himself remarked on Paul’s performance, saying “I think he (Paul) took it in stride.”

Discontent was palpable as many fans left the arena before the result was announced and boos echoed as the fight ended.

During the post-fight press conference, Paul admitted that he deliberately avoided the knockout, stating, “Yeah, definitely a little bit. I wanted to show the fans, but I didn’t want to hurt someone who didn’t need it.” to be injured.”

He also reflected on Tyson’s performance, noting, “There was a moment when he (Tyson) wasn’t coming back, I could just tell his age was showing a little bit. This thing with the violence in the war… which went as the rounds went on.

“People just love to hate me. I say things on purpose for people to hate. This is what I love to do. If people want to see more…give me a couple of months. I tried to give the best fight I could.

“When someone is just surviving in the ring, it’s hard to make it exciting. I don’t care what people say. It is what it is.”

Retired boxing champion Andre Ward told KO Artist Sports, “I don’t want to say it… it felt like it at times. And to be honest with you, I appreciate it. I wasn’t going to feel anything.

“What’s the worst that can happen, you get booed a few times? But you still honor and pay tribute to the greatest of all time.”

Paul also revealed another reason for his performance: “Two weeks ago I sprained my ankle, completely tore the ligaments, the anterior ligament and kind of broke the other side of my foot.”

“I was on crutches for four or five days and it just made it difficult to finish my training camp. I don’t know how it didn’t leak or something. I missed about two weeks of sparring and so my cardio didn’t really drop for me like that good tonight.”
