Director-producer SS Kumaran has raised concerns about Nayanthara’s husband, Vignesh Shivan’s film, LIC.

Earlier today, Nayanthara lashed out at Dhanush.

Nayantara couldn’t resist after Dhanush sent her a formal notice demanding Rs 10 crore. The actress, known for her no-nonsense attitude, took to Instagram over the weekend to express her frustration. She shared that while working on her Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale, she asked Dhanush for permission to use footage from their 2015 film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. But instead of agreeing, Dhanush reportedly refused and filed a legal case for using the behind-the-scenes video from the film.

Meanwhile, director-producer SS Kumaran has raised concerns about Nayanthara’s husband Vignesh Shivan’s LIC film. He claims that the title was registered by his production company Suma Pictures back in 2015 and that Shivan used it without permission for his upcoming film starring Pradeep Ranganathan. Kumaran previously covered the issue in December 2023.

He wrote, “Dhanush sent you a formal notice for using three seconds of the video without his permission. However, your husband used the LIC name for his, even though he knew it was registered to my production house. He asked my permission through someone, but I did not give it. Nevertheless, he went ahead and marketed the film as LIC. How do you justify that?”

The director-producer noted that the name LIC was deeply connected to his own story, so he turned down Vignesh Shivan’s request. He went on to add, “You patiently waited two years for permission from someone more powerful than you to use this material, but you trampled me because I’m a small producer. This made me very sad and you need to answer for it in God’s forum. I went through so much emotional turmoil and pain because of what you did and it also affected my film.’

He went on to add: “Every filmmaker spends time and money on their films, and if you want to use anything for your business purposes, you have to understand that you have to get permission legally and according to the right procedures. You’re not doing anything for free, but you’re trying to use our footage/credits for free, which is a terrible trend you and your husband are trying to set in the film industry.”
