Teen pleads guilty to murder and other violent crimes in Jackson

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A teenager who was accused of several crimes in the city of Jackson pleaded guilty on the day the trial was to begin.

Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens announced that Jamori Thompson pleaded guilty to murder, armed robbery and three counts of armed carjacking.

Thompson’s charges stem from a series of brutal crimes it happened between February 9 and 15, 2023. Owens said Thompson was 13 at the time of the crimes.

On February 9, 2023, Jackson Police responded to the 3600 block of Warner Avenue in reference to a series of carjackings. One of the victims told the police that he had been kidnapped by two people and identified Thompson as one of the suspects.

After his arrest, Thompson confessed to the murder of Alvin Levy, armed robbery and three armed carjackings.

On the charge of second-degree murder, Thompson was sentenced to 25 years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) with 20 years of post-release supervision. He faces up to 20 years in MDOC and five years of post-release supervision on three counts of armed carjacking. On the armed robbery charge, Thompson was sentenced to 15 years in MDOC with five years of post-release supervision.
