One arrested for killing a 35-year-old man in a Noida butcher shop

Twelve hours after a 35-year-old man was stabbed to death at a butcher’s shop in Noida’s Sector 113, police on Friday morning arrested the suspect after a brief shootout, senior officers said.

The suspect has been identified as 33-year-old Amarjit Mahto, a native of Chapra in Bihar and a resident of Sorkha district under Sector 113 police station jurisdiction.

“On Thursday around 2:45 p.m., Shahjad, a resident of Sorkha, went to buy meat in a store located near his house. When Shahjad was about to leave after buying meat, Mahto arrived with a scarf on his head,” said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity. When Shahjad asked Mahto for a scarf, ostensibly to wipe off the remains of the meat, he refused, and a verbal dispute ensued.

The investigation revealed that Shahjad, who was suspected to be drunk, abused Mahto. “Mahto slapped him and they got into a physical fight. When Shahjad overpowered Mahto, who was physically weak, he took a meat knife and stabbed Shahjad twice before leaving the place,” said the officer.

Shahjad left the butcher’s shop and fell to the ground. The incident was caught on video surveillance cameras, the police seized the footage. Shahaj is survived by his wife and three children, police said, adding that the suspect and the deceased did not know each other.

“On Friday morning, the police were informed that Makhto was seen near the forest massif of sector 117, and a team went to the place. Mahto fired at the police, received a bullet wound in the leg during the retaliatory fire and was arrested,” said Ram Badan Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Noida, adding that a case under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered. at Sector 113 Police Station against Mahto.
