Hinds County man pleads guilty to killing grandmother and uncle

HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – a resident of Hinds County pleaded guilty in connection with shooting grandmother and uncle in 2021.

Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens said Harry Highlander on Wednesday, November 13, pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder.

Suspects wanted after fatal shooting in McComb

On July 26, 2021, Hinds County deputies responded to a home on Midway Road to check on the welfare of Highlander’s grandmother, Sarah Highlander, 83. When they arrived at the scene, deputies discovered the bodies of Sara Hylander and 60-year-old David Hylander. They were shot several times.

According to the investigation, Highlander confessed to one of his family members that he killed his uncle. Clinton police later located and arrested Highlander at the Econo Lodge.

Hylander was sentenced to life in prison on both counts, to be run and served concurrently
Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC).
