A woman has been sentenced to 10 months ACI for helping a man escape from a fatal crash

WARWICK, Rhode Island (WPRI) — A Charlestown woman was sentenced Friday in connection with the death of a teenager from East Greenwich two years ago.

27-year-old Alicia Peckham was found guilty leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death as an accessory, harboring a felon, committing a felony and obstruction of justice.

Peckham was sentenced to three years, of which she served 10 months in ACI and two years remaining on her home detention. She was also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine and perform 200 hours of community service

“My condolences go out to the family, of course, 100 percent,” Peckham told 12 News outside court.

Investigators believe her then-boyfriend, Aramis Segura, was speeding when he crashed into the back of 17-year-old Olivia Passaretti’s car on I-95 South as she drove home early on New Year’s Day.

ON THE TOPIC: The man is not involved in the deadly disaster of 2022

Passaretti’s car went off the track and onto an embankment, where it hit a tree and overturned. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Segura abandoned his car and began running into the woods, where he eventually contacted Peckham, who drove him back to their home in Charlestown.

During the trial, the prosecutor’s office presented texts Peckham allegedly sent to Segura’s sister on the night of the accident, as well audio recording her interview with detectives, where she admitted to lying twice during the investigation.

Peckham’s attorney got one of the charges dismissed and told 12 News outside court he thought the sentence was fair.

In the meantime, the Passaretti family is just happy to close this chapter.

“Is there enough time? No. But at the end of the day, there will never be enough time because nothing can bring her back,” said her sister Victoria Passaretti. “We just hope that eventually (Peckham) will learn from his actions and do something about it.”

Peckham’s sentence will officially begin on Friday, December 13.

Seguri is scheduled to be sentenced in January declaring no contest last month
